ATTENTION Parents/Guardians - NEW FOR THE 2017-2018 SCHOOL YEAR!

Les Cheneaux Community Schools has **NEW** Meal Charge Procedures

The purpose of these procedures are to establish a consistent meal account charging process.  Unpaid charges place a financial strain on the food service department.  The goals of these procedures are to:

    • Establish age appropriate policies/procedures
    • Encourage parent/guardian responsibility of meal payments and promote student responsibility
    • Establish a consistent district policy regarding meal charges and collection of charges.

    Responsibility:

The food service department will be responsible for sending existing meal charge policies to parents/guardians in writing, maintaining charge records, sending balance notifications to families and notifying the district of outstanding balances

The School district will be responsible for notifying the parent/guardian in writing of the uncollected/delinquent debt that cannot be recovered by the food service department in the year when the debt was incurred.  They will be responsible for maintaining the records of the charges from year to year.

The parent/guardian will be responsible for keeping a positive balance on the child’s account

    Procedure K-5

Students will be allowed to charge to a maximum of $30 for a reimbursable meal.   After that amount is reached the student may be given an alternative meal.

At -$5.00 a student will be given notice that their account balance is negative.  This will be provided in their weekly Friday folders, and will continue weekly until the balance reaches above -$5.00.

At -$20 a phone call to parent/guardian will occur.

At -$30 an alternative meal may be provided.

     Procedure 6-12

Students will be allowed to charge to a maximum of $30 for a reimbursable meal.   After that amount is reached the student will not receive a meal without payment.

At -$5.00 a student will be given notice that their account balance is negative.  This will be done verbally until the account balance reaches above -$5.00.

At -$15 a letter will be mailed to the address on file.

At -$20 a phone call to parent/guardian will occur.

At -$30 no meal will be provided without cash on a daily basis.

Students with a negative balance will not be allowed to charge ala carte.

    Year End Procedure

At the end of each school year the student balances will be transferred to the school district to be maintained until all payment has been received.  The food service program will be made whole with a funds transfer at the end of each year.

The school district will continue to collect payments for outstanding district balances until all balance have been paid.

At the start of each school year the prior balances will be included in the total balance owed for the next school year.  The above procedures will be on the total accumulated balances for the entire district.
