Dear Parents and Guardians,
I wanted to follow up regarding the situation earlier today.
After a thorough review by school staff and law enforcement, we can confirm that no weapon was found, and at no point was there a confirmed threat to students or staff. The report was taken seriously, and appropriate precautions—including the soft lockdown—were implemented out of an abundance of caution while the situation was fully assessed.
The soft lockdown has been lifted, and the remainder of the school day continued as normal. We appreciate the support of our local authorities in helping ensure a careful and complete response.
I also want to recognize our staff and students for their calm and cooperation throughout the situation. Their actions helped us address the concern quickly and safely.
Please know that we will always take all reports seriously and act within our safety protocols to protect our school community. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out. Thank you for your continued trust and support.
Sincerely,
Bob Lohff

Les Cheneaux Community Schools

Earlier today, our school was placed in a soft lockdown after a student reported that another student may have had a weapon in their backpack. School staff immediately followed safety protocols, and a thorough search of the student’s backpack and locker was conducted. No weapon was found.
Out of an abundance of caution, law enforcement was notified and is responding. At this time, there is no active threat to students or staff. The soft lockdown was implemented to ensure everyone’s safety while the situation was fully assessed.
We appreciate the swift actions of our staff and the cooperation of our students as we worked through this matter. The safety and well-being of our school community remains our highest priority.
We will continue to keep families informed if there are any further updates.
Sincerely,
Mr. Lohff
Superintendent, 9-12 Principal

All of the weather uncertainty has made scheduling difficult this week...but here is something to start with. Expect changes as the week progresses and we know more about what the weather will allow us to do.
The MS Boys Basketball tournament scheduled for March 16 and 18 has been postponed. When new details are available they will be shared; this includes any practices.
Finally, we have made the difficult decision to postpone our Winter Athletic Banquet until after Spring Break. Hopefully the weather will be better and more predictable by then.
If you have to venture out anywhere today or tomorrow, please be safe and check in on each other...this looks to be a nasty couple of days! We'll keep you updated on any changes as they happen.
